Installation / Uninstallation

1. Download IsoBuster:

If you have not yet downloaded and installed IsoBuster, get IsoBuster here

2. Install IsoBuster:

Next you can install the program by double clicking the installation program.  The install wizzard will guide you through the process.

When you are asked if you want to register file extensions, "Which file types do you want associated with IsoBuster", Check the Image File types you want IsoBuster to open automatically. The File Types you have checked will automatically open in IsoBuster if you double click them.  (E.g *.bin, *.iso, *.cif, ...).

This option might be a bit confusing.  Image files are identical copies of CDs, DVDs, Hard Drives, Flash media etc., stored block per block, in regular files which you can keep on a Hard Drive or any other medium. IsoBuster is able to open these files and treat them as a regular disc or disk.   The extensions you can select in the "Select file associations" window are extensions of such image files.  Image files come in many flavours, created by many different applications.  Therefore there are so many different extensions listed in the "Select file associations" window.  Example : an *.ISO file is the most common optical image file variant out there and is supported by different write applications.  If you check (*.ISO) in the "Select file associations" window, after installation, when you double click an .iso file, IsoBuster will automatically start and load the image file and will show you all the files in the image, as if the image file were a CD or DVD.  If your sole use will be Data Recovery then there is no need to check these extensions in the "Select file associations" window.  However if you want to keep IsoBuster installed on your system, then it makes sense to select them anyway.  Next time when you're confronted with an image file, IsoBuster will be installed and ready to open the image file for you.  More on this online: Installation guide for IsoBuster: "Select file associations" explained.

Create a Desktop icon will leave a shortcut on your desktop

Create a Quick Launch icon will place a shortcut in the bottom right corner of the Windows taskbar (default position)

3. Register IsoBuster:

IsoBuster will ask you to enter the ID and Key on first startup. if you purchased a Key you can do this now.  Else select "Remind me later" or "Free Functionality only".

In case you have problems entering the Email address, ID and Key, check out this section.

An IsoBuster installation does NOT require you to reboot the system !

4. Uninstall IsoBuster:

You can easily uninstall the Software if you like.  To uninstall click on the Windows "Start" button, click "IsoBuster" and finally click "Uninstall IsoBuster"
Or, alternatively, via the regular Windows uninstall functionality by clicking on the Windows "Start" button, then by clicking on the "Settings" button and/or then by clicking on the "Control Panel" button, then by clicking on the "Add or Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" button, then by selecting or clicking IsoBuster and finally by selecting "uninstall" or by clicking the on the "Change/Remove" button.  Make sure the application is closed before starting the uninstallation process.

PS. IsoBuster, IsoBuster Toolbar and Smart File Advisor (SFA) are three seperate programs.  They work independently from each other and they can be (un)installed independently from each other.  If you need one, but not the other, then uninstall what you don't need anymore.

5. Uninstall IsoBuster Toolbar:

PS. The toolbar is not bundled anymore but maybe you installed it from an older download.

Uninstalling it works like uninstalling any software on a Windows system and you may uninstall this software at any time and with no limitations, using the standard uninstall procedures as offered with your computer's operating system or your Internet browser.

Internet Explorer (IE):

   1. Click the Start button and then select Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.

  4. Disable/uninstall the required Extension or toolbar

If you let the installation change the default search engine, here is how to change that:

I hope this helps, and sorry the toolbar annoyed you !

6. Uninstall Smart File Advisor:

PS. Smart File Advisor is not bundled anymore but maybe you installed it from an older download.

We used to bundle a slimmed down version of Smart File Advisor.  Basically what you can read here but without the newer software alert functionality.  It is non intrusive and only runs when you run a file that your Windows system doesn't know.  It is intended to help you in your data recovery attempts, to look at unknown data.  You can also avoid its installation by unchecking "Suggest suitable software for unsupported file formats (installs Smart File Advisor on your PC)" during installation.

Uninstall it via the regular Windows uninstall functionality, for instance Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features or by clicking on the Windows "Start" button, then by clicking on the "Settings" button and/or then by clicking on the "Control Panel" button, then by clicking on the "Add or Remove Programs" or "Programs and Features" button, then by selecting or clicking Smart File Advisor and finally by selecting "uninstall" or by clicking the on the "Change/Remove" button.  Make sure the application is closed before starting the uninstallation process.
