IsoBuster 5.8 Beta Released!
IsoBuster 5.8 Beta, a release candidate for IsoBuster 5.8, is ready !
This version features a lot of cool functionality again. See below list for all the details:
A lot of effort was put in optimizing the scan for missing files and folders (aka file carving). This version is a lot better at detecting files based on their signature and as a consequence there will be far less false positives as well. This is an ongoing process and we welcome any feedback on improving this. If you get obvious false positives during a scan, please let us know and work with us to improve the algorithm.
Support for 'Advanced Forensic Format' (versions 1-3) (*.aff, *.afd, *.afm) is a native implementation that does not rely on afflib. It was implemented using a limited amount of available image files, mainly created with the same tools. It is our understanding that, due to the fairly loose description of the format, there are many interpretations and implementations out there. Please test and provide feedback. We're happy to improve where we can.
Support for Vineyard CCTV recorder HDDs is based on an extremely limited data-set, essentially only one image-file, with no knowledge of how many cameras were active. Proper analysis was hampered by the fact that the official *.mcg player, from long defunct Vineyard, is nowhere to be found online. So it was impossible to try and isolate individual recordings, since it was impossible to visually verify the findings. If you have such HDDs/Images collecting dust, if you have the mcg-player-installation filed away, do contact us, perhaps we can improve support for this particular type of CCTV camera setup. For the time being only one *.mcg file is shown that comprises all the streams.
Please Install and Run this Beta version ! If there are any issues, now is the moment to report them. Don't wait until the final is out, which will be soon.
Let us know if you run into issues or have feedback
Changes / New:
- Support for 'Advanced Forensic Format' (versions 1-3) (*.aff, *.afd, *.afm) (compressed (or not), but not encrypted). Needs a [Professional] license
- Support for Panasonic DV Recorders with a high volume of recordings (thousands), for instance on large external HDDs (e.g. 2TB)
- Support for Vineyard (IVR-Q8) CCTV-formatted hard drives, enabling extraction of *.mcg files for access to video streams.
Improvements:
- Greatly improved detection of files based on their signature (better detection of already supported files, inclusion of new files and less false positives)
- When *.mp3 files are detected via their signature, they get a filename based on their ID3 meta data
- Historically, when a DVR HDD is recognized, a scan for missing files and folders only looks for VOB/Mpeg files (to avoid clutter and false positives). This has been extended to also include *.mp3, *.wav and *.jpg files
- Ability to scan for all types of extensions [*.*] on recognized DVR HDDs via Ctrl+Shift+right-mouse-click
- Added detection for a bunch of raw camera picture formats (*.raf, *.x3f, *.gpr, *.3fr, *.iiq, *.mos, *.erf, *.bay, *.mef, *.mrw, *.cr2, *.sr2, *.arw, *.orf, *.nef, *.pef, *.srw, *.iiq, *.rw2, *.kdc, ..)
- Improved parsing DVD-VR discs to show all recordings
- Confirmed support for Panasonic DMR-BWT450GL and DMR-BWT955GL DV Recorders
- Show comments, stored per recording in the Panasonic MEIHDFS file system, in the status-bar, when the recording is selected
- Improvements in the search box to allow spaces in search queries where possible
- The search box now support rule 'Sort:', to sort certain search terms
- Editing of editable files/folders shown in search results, is now possible
- A CD's track mode, stored in a *.ibp, is overridden if the source CD reader made a mistake
- An MBR inside a partially overwritten Super-floppy VBR, is now detected, so that partitions can still be found
- Small improvements supporting the HFS and MFS file systems
- File-date and the file's real name are now also stored in AppleSingle and AppleDouble files
- The installer now makes sure that W10 and W11 lists IsoBuster under 'Apps', so that IsoBuster can easily be selected, to associate with an extension
- Support for corrupted (long defunct ReQuest-made) ISO files (often accompanied by a *.rqv file (which is ignored))
- Reduced StatusBar flicker when a Dark theme is applied
- Reduced ListView-Header flicker when a theme is applied
- Reduced flicker when the Options dialog is shown (mostly visible when a Dark Style is active)
- Improved Breadcrumbs style (when hovered over) on Windows 11
- Automatic collapsing of the TreeView nodes can be disabled in Options
- Preview is now enabled for *.m4v and *.m2ps
- Plenty of other tweaks and improvements, lots of changes under the hood
Fixes:
- Fixed performing a surface scan [From-To] in "Read Reverse" mode. It would mistakenly read forward, starting from the end
Known issues :
- None
