IsoBuster 2.8.5 released

We released IsoBuster 2.8.5 today with a considerable amount of new features and improvements. This version finds even more file formats based on their signature. Some of these files are difficult to recognize, for instance most Office formats. Technicians and experts will also appreciate the command line improvements. They are already being used in a child abuse investigation. Make sure to also check out the other improvements and bug fixes, certainly a good reason to upgrade to this latest and greatest version.

Today IsoBuster 2.8.4 beta was released with a number of new cool features and improvements. The main advantage of this version is that it recognizes so many more file formats based on their signature. Some of these files are difficult to recognize, especially the different Office formats. Technicians and experts will also appreciate the command line improvements. They are already being used in a child porn investigation. Also check out the other improvements and bug fixes, definitely a good reason to upgrade to the latest and greatest.

The main new feature is plugin support and it is now possible for third parties to create plugins to support new or already existing image file formats for opening and/or creating image files. IsoBuster 2.7 was released today. The main new features are support for interleaved files in the ISO9660 / Joliet file-system and Right to Left reading languages support. To benefit from complete support for all file-system types, download and install asap.

IsoBuster 2.6 was released today. The main new feature is the complete integration of Unicode in the GUI, which means that you can run the program on any system in any language, but more importantly that you can inspect any language disc or image file on any system. For instance inspect and extract Arabic filenames on an English system. The combinations are endless. Besides this major new feature there are again several new goodies to be checked out, so download and install asap.

We released IsoBuster 2.6 Beta today. This version will soon be released as a final version. IsoBuster 2.5.9 Alpha version released

Today we released an Alpha version of what should become IsoBuster 2.6. An Alpha version because we feel that this version may need a bit more testing, as we ported the project to a newer compiler, to finally be able to make use of IsoBuster's internal unicode workings via the GUI as well. So with this new version you can set IsoBuster to work in Chinese, for instance, on an English system, working on a DVD that has Greek file-names and so on. But read the full article to understand better and how we plan to release another beta and full version before we promote this alpha version to a beta version and finally a final version.

Today we released IsoBuster 2.4. This version features FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32 support. FAT is used on random writable media with internal defect management, such as DVD-RAM and BD-RE. But IsoBuster now also opens disk image files from other media such as hard drives, usb drives, memory sticks, floppies, etc. as long as they contain a FAT file-system.

Today we released IsoBuster 2.3 after a short beta run. This version further improves on finding Video on various DVD formats (DVD-VR, DVD+VR, DVD-VFR), so that you can extract the different recordings. Forensics investigators will also appreciate the ability to see when the different recording were made.

We're on our way to the ESWC, a software conference, this year held in Cologne. Let's see if we came close to winning the Epsilon award. But that's not the main reason of course. Software conferences are a great way to reconnect with our colleagues and peers and learn about the new developments (and old stuff that simply needs to be refreshed from time to time)

For some time now all major players in the optical industry have been working on the successor of DVD. Indeed, a new disc type with more capacity, about 25 GB per layer as opposed to the 4.5 GB per layer for DVDs. Similarly as with DVD there are again two camps and unfortunately two competing disc formats.
